My friends wanted to stop by here for early dinner. This location is near my work office so I just stayed a little at work and my friends drove from the valley to join me here to eat. I found parking easily when I came because they were not busy at all. I arrived first so I went to put in my order because I didn't know how long it would take. After looking at their menu, I decided to go with their turkey sandwich, added American cheese which is an extra cost, got a small French fries and a small drink. My food actually didn't take long to be ready but it does cost more than other fast food places. They give you a decent amount of fries and the sandwich is a decent size. The inside of this place is spacious and will make you feel like you went back in time because the setup is like albeing in the 80s. My friends joined and put in their order. They mostly got the pastrami sandwiches and the chili cheese fries with pastrami. The portion that they give for the fries with pastrami is huge and it make sense because it cost close to an entree meal. I thought my turkey sandwich was good especially with their buttermilk ranch that you can ask for and the fries I think just needed a little more seasoning. My friends enjoy their pastrami sandwich along with the fries as well.

Just grabbed a cheeseburger and fries from The Hat 🍔🍟
Everything hit the mark—burger was juicy, fries were hot and crispy, and nothing felt rushed or sloppy.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
No overthinking this one.
Solid bite from start to finish.

The Hat makes me nostalgic for a time I never knew. Looking into the history, The Hat started in roughly the same geographical place and time as McDonald's - and I almost wonder if it's what would have happened if Ray Kroc never got involved with the Big M.
The Hat evokes a sense of pride in quality ingredients, service, and community. A small menu, but one that's been done the same way for a long time. A dependable eatery that stands firm and won't bow down to corporate pressure. And I like that.
Yeah, it's just fast food. But it's fast food with purpose. And I think that's something everyone could appreciate these days.

The Hat in Simi Valley is an absolute gem! This classic spot at 1308 E. Los Angeles Ave has been delivering that old-school, hearty American comfort food vibe since the chain started back in 1951, and the Simi location nails it every time.
I went for the **world-famous pastrami dip**—piled high with tender, juicy pastrami on a soft roll, dipped in rich au jus—and it did not disappoint. The meat was perfectly seasoned, not too fatty, and the bread held up beautifully without getting soggy. Paired it with their legendary chili cheese fries, which were loaded, crispy on the outside, and ridiculously addictive. Portions are generous (we easily shared one sandwich and a small fries between two people and still had leftovers), and everything came out hot and fresh.
The service is quick and friendly—counter ordering keeps things moving, even when it's busy. Love the retro diner feel inside too; it's casual, no-fuss, and perfect for a quick lunch or takeout. Prices are fair for the quality and amount of food you get.
If you're in Simi Valley and craving a satisfying, no-nonsense sandwich (or just great fries), The Hat is a must-try. Easily one of the best spots in town—I'll definitely be back soon! 5 stars all the way.

Awesome pastrami dip (large). I also ordered the additional "dipping juice" in a separate container, which pushed the taste over the top. The menu offers many different types of sub/sandwiches, all handmade to your desired taste. And they do not hold back on ingredients! Fast, friendly service, and a large super clean indoor eating area and outdoor seating too. Handicap friendly and large free parking. Thank you 'The Hat' for providing outstanding service.
God Bless, Debra, Bella and Chance.

🍔 The Star: Pastrami Sandwich
From the very first bite, the pastrami sandwich delivers. The meat is thinly sliced, juicy and flavourful, piled high on fresh bread — the kind of sandwich you’re going to remember. Many guests describe it as one of the best pastrami sandwiches they’ve had. It hits that sweet spot of nostalgia and real deli-style craft.
🍟 Crowd Favourite: Chili Cheese Fries
Pair that sandwich with their chili cheese fries and you’re in for a treat. The serving is generous and the fries are loaded with toppings — a perfect complement to the main. Multiple reviews call the fries “massive” and “incredibly good”, which makes them ideal for sharing.
💰 Value & Portion Size
One thing that really impressed: you don’t feel like you’re overpaying for mediocrity. The Hat manages to offer large portions and satisfying quality at a price that feels fair for what you’re getting. As one reviewer said: “For what you’re getting, the value is solid.”
👍 Service & Atmosphere
While the setting is casual (counter ordering, quick service), the staff are described as friendly and efficient. The place doesn’t try to over-dress itself; it leans into being straightforward, unpretentious, and comfortable. One visitor noted that it felt “clean, welcoming, and old-school in the best way.”
If I were to sum it up: The Hat in Simi Valley nails exactly what it sets out to do. Great pastrami, outstanding chili cheese fries, solid value, and good service. Whether you’re stopping by solo or sharing with friends, this is a spot that delivers satisfying, no-frills food done well.
